CILIP Cymru / Wales has about 800 members. All members of CILIP who live in Wales automatically become members of CILIP Wales.

The main decision making bodies of CILIP Cymru / Wales are the Annual General Meeting and the Executive Committee.

The Annual General Meeting is held during CILIP Cymru / Wales Members Day

The Executive Committee is an elected body for which all members are eligible to stand. Representatives of the special interest groups are also appointed to serve on the Committee. It meets three times a year, usually in Aberystwyth and deals with a wide variety of matters including professional concerns and local and national government issues, especially relating to the National Assembly for Wales.

The Officers of CILIP Cymru / Wales are elected by the Executive Committee.

There is one sub-committee, the Activities Panel, which works with the Development Officer in developing a programme of seminars and training events.

The Honorary Secretary of CILIP / Cymru Wales deals with the formal and constitutional matters. The Development Officer, a full-time professional officer, deals with the everyday business including drafting of papers on professional issues, communicating with the membership, and dealing with outside bodies.

The Kathleen Cooks Fund

Kathleen Cooks was librarian of Llandudno from 1947 to 1973. She bequeathed a sum of money for the benefit of libraries and librarians in Wales, and the interest on the bequest is available annually to support projects and developments.

The Kathleen Cooks Fund can award money for proposals which meet at least one of the following criteria:

· Result in a new or improved service to users of library and information services in Wales
· Add to knowledge in Welsh libraries and information services
· Improve professional knowledge among members of CILIP Wales
· Assist in the production or purchase of specific items or collections of permanent value to Wales

The Fund is administered by a management committee consisting of the Officers of CILIP Cymru / Wales together with two elected members who represent public and academic / special libraries in Wales.

Awards are made at the discretion of the management committee and will reflect the quality of the proposal and the money available in the fund. Awards are typically in the region of £500 - £1000, but may on occasion be greater.

Proposals may be submitted by Welsh library authorities, by branches and groups of CILIP Cymru / Wales, or by individual members of CILIP Wales. They may be submitted at any time of year.

Proposals should consist of a brief description of the work to be undertaken, the amount of financial support sought, and the use to which any money awarded will be put. They should not exceed 1000 words and may be submitted on paper or electronically using the form provided here.
